Club History PDF Print E-mail

The Club, in various name forms, is one of Australia's oldest swimming Clubs, having been continually in existence since 1932.

The original Club was based at the Cornelian Bay Baths, to the North of the City of Hobart, on the Derwent River.

In the late 1950's the Club moved to the then new Hobart Olympic Pool as the Northern Suburbs Club.

The early 1960's saw the Club move to the new Glenorchy Olympic Pool with another name change to the Glenorchy Amateur Swimming and Life-Saving Club.

1997 saw the final move to the new indoor Hobart Aquatic Centre. The committee, at the time of the last move was aware that, although the move would add greater financial burdens on the Club and its members, strategically it would be a good decision to operate in a climate controlled environment. The club then became Tattersall's Hobart Aquatic Club.

This strategy has proven to be correct as the Club has gone from strength to strength and established itself as a powerful and progressive entity. The Club is unmatched in the pool on a State level and is making an impact on the National Scene.

From the 1st October 2007 the club became 'THE HOBART AQUATIC CLUB', continuing to train in Tasmania’s superior indoor swimming complex, The Hobart Aquatic Centre.
